Carlos Yulo makes it to floor, vault finals at World Championships

Carlos Yulo continues to reach for the stars as he has now qualified for the floor exercise and vault finals at the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Indonesia.

The Olympic double gold medalist secured the top spot in the vault after scoring 14.900 on his first vault and 14.600 on the second jump, accumulating to 14.750 points.

Yulo meanwhile finished second in the floor exercise with 14.566 points, having earned 8.666 points for execution and 5.900 for difficulty.

The best performer was Filipino-British Jake Jarman, who is competing for Great Britain, after he earned. 14.700 points. In third place is Kameron Nelson from the US with 14.300 points.

With this, Yulo is now eligible for the floor exercise final on Oct. 24 as well as the vault final on Oct. 25.

The 53rd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships is being held at the Indonesia Arena Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex in Jakarta.

On Oct. 18, Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carreon confirmed that Yulo would skip the Southeast Asian Games in December to "give his teammates a chance to win a gold."

Thailand, the host of the 2025 SEA Games, also limited participants to one apparatus in the final of individual events.

Yulo previously made history after winning two gold medals at the Paris Olympics in 2024. He is the second Filipino athlete to win a gold medal at the prestigious sports event after weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Following this, he was named the 2024 Athlete of the Year by the Philippine Sportswriters Association, making him the first gymnast to be recognized with such a title since Pia Adelle Reyes in 1997.
