South Korean actress Seo Yea Ji is entering her theater era!

According to reports, the actress will make her theatrical debut in January, starring in Crying for You, a tragic true story of Yun Sim-deok, a pioneering soprano whose affair with playwright Kim U-jin has become a part of Korean history.

"In her first stage role, she plans to delicately build the inner world of Yun Sim-deok—a woman who never let go of art, love, and her own choices despite the oppression of her time—revealing a new charm distinct from her film and television performances," reported Newsen.

Based on an original script by the late Yoon Dae-sung, the play introduces new historical figures such as Na Hye-sok, Korea’s first female Western-style painter. Its Korean title, Hymn of Death, is named after Yun’s most famous song, recorded in 1926 shortly before her death, Korea Herald reported.

The play will run from Jan. 30 to March 2 at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul.

She shares the role with Jeon So-min, reprising her performance from the production's July run.

Seo is known for her television work in series such as Eve, It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, and Save Me.
