Here's why Solenn Heussaff isn't letting her kids use gadgets until they're 18
Solenn Heussaff opened up about a strict rule she has set for her two daughters: she's keeping them away from gadgets until they turn 18.
During her guest appearance on Boy Abunda's talk show, the actress discussed how her children with her husband, Nico Bolzico—Maelys, 3, and Tili, 6—don't yet know about social media.
"[Tili] doesn’t know Instagram. She doesn't have an iPad. She's six na. Hindi ako nag-gadget sa kanila," Heussaff said. "Their first phone, maybe at 18 or 19."
She then joked about giving them a pager for the meantime.
Heussaff explained that her decision stems from wanting to protect her children from becoming too addicted to gadgets and missing out on bonding moments with their family.
"Nico owns a restaurant, so we're at the restaurant a lot kasi he's very hands-on, so I go with him. Ako nagda-dine lang, and then I see all the families having dinner together, but not 'together.' 'Yung dad nasa phone, 'yung mom nasa phone, 'yung isang baby nasa iPad, 'yung mas maliit nanonood ng TV," she said.
"I get so frustrated kasi I'm like, 'This is so sad. This is what we've become.' Our attention span, we're always just like, we just want that fast short-term dopamine," she lamented.
Heussaff further expressed her frustration over multi-million dollar companies that try to make the public overstimulated.
"They're trying to make us overstimulated, and if we don't get stimulated, then we get bored. And if we get bored, we want to do something else. And there's no attention span of people nowadays. I feel it's really just sad," she said.
"Because we're the transition generation. We went from no phones to having everything at the tip of your fingers, with AI pa lalo ngayon. I don't know. Of course, there [are] so many great things you can do if you use it the right way, the technology. But I just want to go back to the past," she added.
Heussaff tied the knot with Bolzico in France in May 2016 after five years as boyfriend and girlfriend. The celebrity couple welcomed their first child, Thylane Katana, in January 2020 and their second, Maëlys Lionel, in December 2022.
